I am interested in some advice on my stomach area. I'm in pretty good shape, always active but its the stomach area that needs improvement.
It is a myth that you can spot train any part of your body. Simply said, you can't squat to make your booty smaller, you can't crunch to make your belly go away and you can't lunge your thighs into oblivian. Spot training does not work and in fact makes trainees feel helpless.
But with that said, there is some great news! All these exercises do help tighten and tone, so that when the bulge goes away you are left with these great looking muscles that peep through making you look and feel great. So how do you get there?
DIET & SMART EXERCISE!
Take a look at what you are eating and the amount of it that you are eating. Yes even healthy food can be detrimental if you eat too much of it. Get a FREE calorie tracker on your smart phone or even look at free calorie trackers online and get to logging. Log everything you put in your mouth including that extra milk in your afternoon coffee. Then you will see the hidden calories you need to get rid of. On the other side of that, if you are exercising hard and not eating enough, your body will hold onto calories thinking it is in starvation mode, in turn not letting you get rid of that extra weight.
Also log in some cardio time. Some biking in the afternoon, a walk at lunch, anything that can raise your heart rate up for an extended period of time, 40 minutes will do just fine.
Personally I like High Intensity Interval Training - I can do it in half the time and get double the results I am looking for. Strength training also helps you build lean muscle which in turn makes your metabolism run at a super high speed. We will touch on metabolism and your other hormones in another session.
