The most difficult thing to find is "healthy" alternatives to our favorite crack-like
indulgences and I am no stranger to altering my favorite recipe to suit my no-calorie, no insulin spike sweet treat. There is only one problem to that; they weren't really healthy!!!
I LOVE Splenda! There is no other way of putting it. It adds sweetness, where sweet sugar is needed. Oat muffins, oat cookies, protein balls, protein bars, oat pancakes, even my teas and coffee, have had sugar substitutes. I have added that horrid little yellow packet to everything I have known to be bad in my quest to make it good again.
There lyes a little problem however in this little devil of goodness; it's the most
horrid thing out on the market for you! I have known for a very, very long time
the detrimental effects it could have on a body. The tooth decay it can cause,
the cancer cells it can ignite, even the bad gas it can cause (just ask my
hubby, he is all too familiar with it) however nothing has ever caused me to
give it up until now. Why now? Why today? Or Monday rather? Well, its all
image and the way it's been making me look and more importantly feel. Yes this
is the vain side of me coming out, but who doesn't want to look or even better
yet, feel good. If a little yellow packet is the only thing in the way of me achieving a healthy feeling and smell free body, then I say tear the little
cancer-causing, belly bloating, insulin spiker, cause of bad farts and other
ailments apart and chuck it into the abyss.
Maybe all the scientific evidence of it being 100 times sweeter than sugar, therefore making your brain think it's sugar and making your pancreas work overtime trying to process this foreign substance, is true. Maybe all studies on how it is a carcinogen adding to the list of cancer causing substances are true. Maybe this kid from the 'burbs should listen to her heart and stay away from the one thing that is as addicting as the white powdery beauty it claims to replace.
So my vow is this, stay away from the Splenda, and any other sugar substitute that claims it can cut cravings and loosen your belt buckle. The fact remains the same, eat clean and be true to you.
Live from the inside out!
